Decimal and Fraction(小数点と分数)の英語表現

この記事では、小数点と分数について説明します。
小数点と分数の英語表現になると、学校でも習わないので、新しいことを覚えないといけないかもしれません。英語表現が分からなくても、Accuplacerなどのテスト問題については日本の義務教育を終えていれば大多数の人は解けると思います。しかし、声に出して読もうとすると、小数点や分数については英語表現を知らないと読めないかと思います。
Decimals（小数点）
小数点の読み方は、-thsです。小数点は、Decimal pointです。 以下図のようになります。
例えば、小数点第一位は、Tenthsと呼びます。sとつくので、違和感を感じるかもしれませんが、正しいです。

実際に私が声に出して読むときは、読み方２を使っています。

なお、Accuplacerテストでは、Round to the nearest thousandth などのように問題が出される場合があります。
Fractions（分数）
分数は、分子がNumerator、分母がDenominatorです。中央の括線はVinculumです。
以下は、分数について知っておきたい用語です。

例えば、特に、Reciprocalについては、
7/2の逆数を求めよ、
というような問題が出されたりします。
Reciprocalという単語は、数学の教科書などにも出てくる単語なので覚えましょう。
分数の読み方
分数は、分子を基数（普通の数、one,two,three）で読み、その後に分母を序数（順序を表す数、first, second, third,fourth）で読みます。日本語で読む場合とは逆になります。
Proper Fraction（真分数）の分子が1の場合
1/3 ：one third, a third
Proper Fraction（真分数）の分子が1より大きい数
分母を複数形で読みます。 例えば、2/3：two thirds
帯分数の場合
2 2/3（2と2/3）は、two and two thirdsImproper Fraction（仮分数）や分母が大きい分数の場合
分子を基数（普通の数、one,two,three）で読み、その後、over またはby を入れ、分母を基数（普通の数、one,two,three）で読みます。
例えば、33/3は、thirty-three over three

答え3) 2/3 なお、Accuplacerテストでは、どの分数が一番小さいかや大きいか、小さい順に分数が並んでいるのは次のうちどれかというような問題が出される場合があります。

Accuplacerテストでは、分数と小数点の中からどれが大きいか小さいかや、大きい順に並んでいる選択肢はどれかなどの問題が出題される場合があります。
