Points（点）とLines（線）の英語表現を覚えよう！！

この記事では、次元ごとに表現される幾何学と、幾何学の基本となるPoints(点)やLines(線)の英語表現について紹介します。
Dimensions(次元)
図の各数字は、Dimension（次元）を示します。
・Points(点)：No dimensions(次元なし) 点は次元がなく、位置を示すものです。
・Lines(線)：One-dimensional（１次元） 線は、1次元です。
・Planes(平面)：Two-dimensional (２次元) 平面は、2次元です。
・Solids（立体）：Three-dimensional(3次元) 立体は、3次元です。
Coordinates(座標)とPoints(点)
x座標は、x-coordinateと言い、y座標は、y-coordinateと言います。 以下の図に座標に関する用語を表します。
Axis(軸)
X軸は、X-axisと言い、 Y軸は、Y-axisと言います。
Quadrant(象限)
象限は、Quadrantと言います。 右上から反時計回りに、Quadrant Ⅰ（第一象限）、Quadrant Ⅱ（第二象限）、Quadrant Ⅲ（第三象限）、そしてQuadrant Ⅳ（第四象限）です。
なお、反時計回りは、Counterclockwiseと言います。 社会人の方ですと象限という単語自体を忘れている方もがいると思いますが、三角関数の問題でもこの単語は使用されるのでぜひ覚えてください。
Origin(原点)
原点は、Originと呼びます。 日本の数学でも原点Oなどと表しますが、Originの頭文字のOです。
Abscissa and Ordinate(横座標と縦座標)
・Xの座標値（横座標）は、X valueやAbscissaと言います。
横軸をAbscissa axis と言います。すなわち、X-axisは、Abscissa axisということになります。
・Yの座標値（縦座標）は、Y valueやOrdinateと言います。 縦軸をOrdinate axis と言います。すなわち、Y-axisは、Ordinate axisということになります。
Lines(線)
A Line(直線)
Line(直線)は、Math is Funによると、以下の通りです。
A line ・is straight (no curves), ・has no thickness, and ・extends in both directions without end (infinitely). (筆者訳)直線は、 ・まっすぐ（カーブがない） ・厚さがない、 ・終点がない。
以下の図は、Point AとPoint Bを通るA line(直線)です。図のように、End Point(終点)がありません。
Line Segment（線分）
Line segment(線分)は、Math is Funによると、以下の通りです。
When it does have ends it is called a "Line Segment". (筆者訳)線の両端にエンドポイントがある場合、Line Segment(線分)と呼ばれる。
以下の図は、Point AとPoint BをEnd Points(終点)とするLine Segment ABです。
Ray(半直線)
Ray(半直線)は、Math is Funによると、以下の通りです。
When it has just one end it is called a "Ray". (筆者訳)一方にエンドポイントがある場合、Ray半直線と呼ばれる。
以下の図は、Point Aを終端とし、Point Bを通るRay ABです。
Midpoint（中点）
Midpoint(中点)について説明します。
The Midpoint M of a line between points A and B. (筆者訳)点Aと点Ｂの間の線の中点
以下の図は、Point AとPoint Bの間の線の中点Midpoint Mを示します。
また、グラフ上のPoint AとPoint Bの間の線の中点Midpoint Mは、以下の通りです。
このようにPoint AとPoint Bに座標がある場合、Midpoint中点の座標を求めることができます。
Midpoint（中点）の座標は以下のように求めます。

Distance(距離)
距離は、Distanceと言います。
Line Segment AB（線分AB）のDistance（距離）は以下のDistance Formula(距離の公式)によって求めることができます。
$${d=\sqrt{(x2-x1)^{2}+(y2-y1)^{2}}}$$
Slope(傾き)
傾きは、Slopeと言います。
The slope of a line tells by how much the line is "tilted" compared to the x-axis. (筆者訳)線の傾きは、x軸からどのくらい"傾いた"かを示す。 出典:*1
Segment AB（線分AB）のSlope（傾き）は以下のFormula(公式)によって求めることができます。

Parallel Lines(平行線)
Two lines are parallel if they have the same slope. (筆者訳)傾きが同じ場合、２つの線は、平行である。 出典:*1
・The line AB is parallel to line CD. 訳）線ＡＢは、線CDと平行である。
Perpendicular Lines(垂線)
まず、Perpendicular lines（垂線）とは、以下の通りです。
Two lines are perpendicular if their slopes are negative reciprocals of each other. (筆者訳)２つの傾きが互いに負の逆数の場合、２つの線は垂直である。 出典:*1
Negative Reciprocalは、負の逆数です。
逆数ってそもそもなんだっけという人。
(筆者訳)ある数の逆数は、1をある数で割った数である。The reciprocal of a number is 1 divided by the number.
Example)
・The reciprocal of 5 is 1/5.
訳）5の逆数は、1/5。
・The reciprocal of -2 is -1/2.
訳）-2の逆数は、-1/2。
そして、Negativeは、負ですので、逆数にマイナスを付けた値です。
・The negative reciprocal of 5 is -1/5.
訳）5の負の逆数は、-1/5。
・The negative reciprocal of -2 is 1/2.
訳）-2の負の逆数は、1/2。
この図では、２つの直線が垂直に交わっています。
・The line AB is perpendicular to line CD.
訳）線ABは、線CDに垂直である。
Intercept(切片)
切片は、Interceptと言います。 ｘ切片は、x-intercept。 y切片は、y-intercept。
・x-intercept is the point where a line crosses the x-axis. (筆者訳)x切片は、直線がx軸で交わる点である。 ・y-intercept is the point where a line crosses the y-axis. (筆者訳)y切片は、直線がy軸で交わる点である。 出典：*2

The x-intercept is ( 4 , 0). (x切片は、( 4 , 0 )。)
The y-intercept is ( 0 , 8). (y切片は、( 0 , 8 )。)
