数、足し算、引き算、掛け算、割り算、不等式の英語表現を覚えよう

数字について勉強した後は、数字と同様に数学の基礎となる数の種類と算術演算と不等式について勉強するのがよいです。
基本的な算術演算などのように日本語で記載されていれば非常に簡単な問題であっても英語になった途端に解答できなくなるということはよくあります。
しっかりと英語の表現を覚えておくことも重要です！
Numbers (数)
・Whole Numbers:自然数 0,1,2,3,4,5,6,...
なお、自然数に0を含めるか否かは議論があるようですが、ここでは0を含めました。
・Integers:整数 0,±1,±2,±3,±4,...
・Positive integers:正の整数 1,2,3,4,5,6,...
・Negative integers:負の整数 -1,-2,-3,-4,-5,-6,...
・Even integers:偶数 0,±2,±4,...
・Odd integers:奇数 ±1,±3,...
例
問題1) Find all integers between -4 and 5
答え1)-3,-2,-1,0,1,2,3,4
問題2) Find all integers between -4 and 5 inclusive
答え2)-4,-3,-2,-1,0,1,2,3,4,5
このように、問題1)では-4と5を含めないけど、問題2)では-4と5を含めることになります。
ここまで簡単な問題は、Accuplacer テストでも出題されないかもしれませんが、このような表現の違いはきちんと理解しておく必要があります。私も同じような練習問題を解いているときに、between n and mのnとmは含めるのかだろうかと悩んでしまいました。
英語の数
英語で数を数える場合に用いられるのは、Cardinal Number（基数）とOrdinal Number（順序数）があります。
Cardinal Numberは1～100などの数です。
Ordinal Numberは、1番目～100番目というように物の順序・順番を示すときに用いる数です。
0～100と1000などの英語表現を以下に示します。
メモ）40は、fortyであって、fourtyではないので気を付けてください！！

数字の単位の読み方
日本語では、「万」「億」「兆」と4桁ごとに表現が変わるのに対して、 英語では「thousand」「million」「billion」「trillion」と3桁ごとに変化します。 区切りの目印として使われているのがカンマです。

があります。 四則演算などは小学生レベルですが、いざ英文で出題されると分からなくなることがあります。各演算で用いられる表現を覚えましょう。

"ten minus three"やthe difference between(/of) ten and three"（左辺）は、1つのかたまりのため、"it"になり、三人称単数で"equals"、"is"となります。

不等式の読み方については、基本的にシンボル化で示した"Problems"の通りです。 ・x<3、x is less than 3. ・y>2, y is greater than 2

演算が２つ以上の時、括弧の位置などは間違えやすいので、よく確認してください。私もAccuplacer テストの勉強をしているときには、どこに括弧を付けるかでずっと問題文とにらめっこしていました。 基本的には、The quantity of, the sum of, the difference ofにおいて括弧を付けると覚えるとよいです。 以下にいくつか例を示します。
