Standard Equation of a line(直線の方程式)の英語表現を覚えよう

今日は、直線の方程式の書き方に関する英語について説明します。
Slope(傾き)
直線の傾きについて説明します。
The slope of a line tells by how much the line is "tilted" compared to the x-axis. (筆者訳)直線の傾きは、x軸からどの位その線が傾いているかを示す。 出典:*1
傾きの公式（The formula for the slope）は以下の通りです。
$${m = \frac{rise}{run} = \frac{change\;in\;y}{change\;in\;x} = \frac{y_2-y_1}{x_2-x_1}}$$
Two Points on the line:
$$(x_1,y_1),(x_2,y_2)$$
Intercept(切片)
切片は、Interceptと言います。 ｘ切片は、x-intercept。 y切片は、y-intercept。
The x-intercept is where a line crosses the x-axis, and the y-intercept is the point where the line crosses the y-axis. (筆者訳)x切片は、直線がx軸で交わる場所であり、x切片は、直線がy軸で交わる場所である。 出典:*2
Example)
The x-intercept is ( 4 , 0). (x切片は、( 4 , 0 )。)
The y-intercept is ( 0 , 8). (y切片は、( 0 , 8 )。)
Standard Equation of a Line（直線の標準な方程式）
標準な方程式は、
・Standard form(標準型)
・Slope-Intercept form(傾き切片型) の2つがあります。
Standard Form of a Line（直線の標準型）
直線の標準型は以下のような方程式です。
$${Ax+By=C}$$
A, B both ≠0
Intercept from a Equation(方程式からの切片)
問題例1)
For $$2x-4y=7$$, find the x and y intercepts.
答え)
the y-intercept:
$$(0,\frac{-7}{4})$$
the x-intercept:
$$(\frac{7}{2},0)$$
問題例2)
Given a line with m = 5/3 and containing point (5,-7), write the equation of the line in standard form.
解き方)
Step1:
$$m=\frac{5}{3}=\frac{y-(-7)}{x-5}$$
$$\frac{5}{3}=\frac{y+7}{x-5}$$
Step2: Cross-multiplying
$$5(x-5)=3(y+7)$$ $$5x-25=3y+21$$
答え)
$$5x-3y=46$$
Slope-intercept Form of a Line（直線の傾き切片型）
$${y=mx+b}$$
b:y-intercept(y切片)
m:slope（傾き）
問題例)
Given points(2,5) and (6,10) on a line, write the equation of the line in slope-intercept form.
解き方)
Step1:
$$m=\frac{10-5}{6-2}=\frac{5}{4}$$
$$\frac{5}{3}=\frac{y+7}{x-5}$$
Step2: Cross-multiplying
$$5(x-5)=3(y+7)$$
$$5x-25=3y+21$$
答え)
$$5x-3y=46$$
